Import Descendants

Automatically import all of a module's descendants.

Useful in Django apps if you want to split your tests (or models or views) into multiple files.

Adding to your Django Project

Requires Django 1.3, 1.4 or 1.5.

Install (e.g. by adding import-descendants==1.0.0 to your requirements.txt or by using pip).

Add import_descendants to your INSTALLED_APPS.

If you want to use it for tests, add the following to /tests/init.py:

from import_descendants import import_descendants
import sys

this_module = sys.modules[__name__]
import_descendants(this_module, globals(), locals())

Publishing releases to PyPI

To publish a new version of import-descendants to PyPI, set the __version__ string in import_descendants/__init__.py, then run:

# Run the tests against multiple environments
tox
# Publish to PyPI
./setup.py publish
# Tag (change 1.0.0 to the version you are publishing!)
git tag -a v1.0.0 -m 'Version 1.0.0'
git push --tags

Running the tests

To run the tests against the current environment:

./manage.py test

To run the tests against multiple environments, install tox using pip install tox, make sure you're not currently in a virtual environment, then simply run tox:

tox
